RTEC Communications, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ridgeville Telephone Company. RTEC was incorporated in 1990 and began serving the community of Ridgeville Corners with Cable TV service. At that time, the company offered 24 channels to 140 customers.
In 2001, we expanded our services to Archbold. Today, after
an extensive upgrade, we now offer 100 channels. RTEC not
only offers cable TV but also offers cable modem high speed
Internet service. In 2003, we expanded even further by offering
services to Burlington and Elmira.
RTEC Communications has created a fiber based Ethernet/Transparent
LAN Data network over the Four County area. The counties include
Fulton, Henry, Defiance and the eastern portion of Williams
County. The Ethernet Data network prevents Northwest Ohioans
from becoming a victim of the "digital divide".
These Data services are as available here in rural Northwest
Ohio as they are in metropolitan areas.
In the fall of 2006, RTEC offered local high definition or
digital channels. In the future we plan to upgrade our cable
TV system to a digital signal as opposed to our current analog
system. The digital system will be able to off more channels,
pay-per-view, video-on-demand, and several music-only channels.
We will then be able to offer our customers more HDTV programming
Another project RTEC, in conjunction with its parent company,
Ridgeville Telephone Company, has begun is "fiber to
the home" for Ridgeville's Local Telephone Exchange area.
Fiber to the home will benefit those who have rural addresses
and, up until now, have never been able to receive cable TV
or cable modem. This project will take 10 years. When each
phase is completed, RTEC will offer rural residents all the
same services the "in-town" residents have.
With the advancement in the telecommunications industry, the future is bright for RTEC Communications.
